Taiwan Attractions THE GIANT TREES OF ALISHAN

Posted on 6th December 2008 by admin in taiwan attractions

NWG-DVD-193 – The pathless mountain region of Alishan in the heart of Taiwan is famous for its magnificent forests and huge cypress trees. As though in a fairy tale world, the roots of the giant trees spread like mystical tentacles across the ground. According to legend, two sisters killed themselves by drowning in the Pond Of Two Sisters due to their unhappiness caused by unrequited love. Even today this place possesses both a romantic and poignant atmosphere and is one of Alishan’s most popular tourist attractions. Thought to be three thousand years old, the Alishan Sacred Tree is quite outstanding as in 1956 it was struck by lightning and died yet the dead giant has lost nothing of its mighty appearance.

Hell Valley Peitou Taipei

Posted on 5th December 2008 by admin in taiwan attractions, taiwan holidays, taiwan tours

Hell Valley is quite appropriately named. It smells of sulphur, it’s steamy and hot, even in winter, and you can see it bubbling away. Taiwan is in an active earthquake zone and boasts of many lovely hot springs. Peitou is one town where you can try them, either free, by the river, or in hot spring hotels where the water is specially piped in. 10/02

Tips for Scuba Diving Vacations

Posted on 4th December 2008 by admin in General Travel Info - Tags:

So, you finally got your scuba diver training and the next step for you is to go on a scuba diving vacation. The trip can definitely be an exciting one, however, you shouldn’t forget about the importance of proper planning for this excursion. A scuba diving vacation is a lot different from your normal trip. Thus it is important to be prepared for this kind of trip.

The primary decision you should make for your scuba diving holiday is probably the destination. Wherever you are going, it should fit your scuba diving level, your finances, time, and preferences. Those things are hard to balance, but with the help of a travel agent who is knowledgeable about diving, you can find an adventure spot that will be compatible to you. You can also benefit from asking a diving center as they would be glad to point out to you the great diving sites where you can start your scuba diving adventure.

When planning your scuba diving travel adventure you shouldn’t leave out the non-diving aspects of your trip. Sure you are excited about going underwater, but there are many good sights to see on dry land, and you wouldn’t want to miss them as well. Remember to have the right balance of wet and dry activities for your adventure.

Make a checklist of the things you need for the vacation from your flights to your scuba diving gear. If you are going on an international trip, be sure to arrange other important details such as your visa, vaccinations (if needed), currencies, and other matters. Research every detail of your vacation so you don’t go empty-handed. Knowing about everything will decrease the likelihood of problems happening during the trip.

Here are other important tips for your scuba diving vacation:

– Set the dates for your vacation, but be flexible as there might things to change.
– Look around for good scuba diving vacation packages.
– mark you scuba diving equipment clearly so you can spot them easily.
– Get diving and travel insurance.
– Make several copies of your travel documents, keep one for yourself and give another to someone at home.
– Don’t forget your medicines and first aid kit.
– Take important diving gear with you as carry on luggage.
– Check with your airline if they have restrictions about diving equipment.

With careful planning, you can ensure your enjoyment for your scuba diving vacation. Enjoy!

Flights Start from Taiwan to China

CHEN: It seems relations between China and Taiwan might be a getting a little better. Today saw the first weekend flights begin between the political rivals in over six decades. Let’s take a look. STORY: Top negotiators from China and Taiwan agreed last month to the weekend charter flights. The historic flights are ushering in the first wave of what could become millions of Chinese visitors to the island. An Air China flight took off from the Beijing airport at 8:30 a.m. local time and is scheduled to land at the Taoyuan International Airport at around 1:00 p.m. No regular direct flights, aside from a few special charters on selected holidays, have flown since 1949. Travelers say it has greatly reduced the amount of traveling time. [Fu Yi-jung, Traveler]: “Before, I had to ride two hours from Foshan to the port, two hours boat ride to Hong Kong, then wait another two hours to get on a flight, it is very troublesome.” Others have put hope into the promising economic benefits the flights will bring. “This is extremely helpful, to the economy, to culture… very helpful.” The first departure from Taiwan was a sold-out China Airlines flight to Shanghai. Twelve airlines, eight Taiwan airports and numerous travel agents have been flat out in the last month with bookings to Chinese cities of Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Xiamen. Opening Taiwan to mainland Chinese tourists is an important policy of the current government. Taiwanese president Ma Ying-jeou has pledged to revitalize the island’s economy with closer trade and transit ties to China.

Last year, most of them, the typhoons avoided Taiwan went to the PRC or Japan, This year, they seem to be hitting Taiwan frequently!! Not good but should be over by Nov.
