This is the “Promised Land” hotel in Hualien, Taiwan. We stayed there for one night. Rooms were very nice and the service was good. The hotel has a waterway that runs through the grounds and a boat that will take you around to see the tropical setting that the hotel is in. The pool is also very nice with a multi tiered adult pool with water falls a cave area and a slide that is connected to the spa area. They also have a separate shallow kids pool with a play ground in it. With our nights stay we got a free boat trip around the hotel and two free buffet style meals. All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable place to stay. Be advised you are required to have a spandex style swim suit and swim cap to use the pool.

鎮瀾宮大甲媽之哨角響媽祖情 Taiwan: Crazy for Matsu this week, there is one thing people in central Taiwan are crazy for. That is Da-jia Matsu’s inspection In addition to walking with Matsu and serving free tea and water because they made the wish, the most important tradition is going through Matsu’s palankeen. People believe that after going through Matsu’s palankeen, they will have a better luck in the future year. Many people keep many sad things in their mind. They cannot find anyone to talk to and discuss. They wait for Matsu’s inspection tour every year, and hold incense and pray and tell Matsu the bitterness in their life. Because of this, they wait for Matsu’s inspection tour every year. To the elders, Matsu is better than psychiatrists. These people believe that Matsu will protect the region of inspection tour. Some people try to ‘rob’ Matsu, especially in Chuanghua. Before Matsu went into Nan-Yao Temple, police officers took over Matsu. Local people tried to use fireworks and firecrackers to stop Matsu, and some young and strong men tried to grab the umbrella that belong to Matsu. This year they did not succeed because there are too many police officers. The number of police officers let me feel there was a serious criminal case. Matsu was originally Goddess of the Sea. Our ancestors brought her over with them when they crossed the sea to Taiwan, to protect themselves, and when they moved inwards, cultivating the land of Taiwan, they frequently appealed to her for blessings and protection, and thus Matsu became “Taiwanized,” and having started out as Goddess of the Sea became Goddess of Rain. The Taiwanese saying, “Lord Tatao controls the wind, and the lady Matsu brings the rain” further encouraged the belief that the ritual of “welcoming Matsu” often brought rain. Religion is the place the light is. We are like children, attracted by the light in the darkness. I like the positive power of orthodox religion. When I saw these believers walking silently, the power of belief is very positive. I have a different view toward ‘religion.’ Religion is not for doubting, but for believing. I feel that Matsu’s inspection tour provides good hiking and profound tourism experience with free food and accommodation. You cannot find a better one even with a lantern ! Da-jia Matsu mercy and blesses you carefree

I intend to study in Taiwan next year. Any tips? Applying for student pass? Temp work pass? Accomodation? Insights? I am a Sinagporean. Eager to know what to do if applying to study in Taiwan. Visas? Study permit? Can I work part time while studying? Accomodation other than hostel? Example: Rates of accomodation, expenses, etc.
Check this site, it should give you some ideas. http://www.studyabroaddirectory.com/Taiwan.cfm Twn is a pretty country, I’ve been there and people there are very friendly and hospitality. I don’t know where you from, you may not use to their traffic in the beginning, but it indeed is a different experience. Compare to China, it is a better place to go. Good Luck to you!!

Here is my 42 days plan in Taiwan. I would like to ask anyone to help me to improve on it. I am on a budget graduation trip to taiwan. Day 1: Arrive in Taipei Day 2: Beihai & Danshui (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 3: Shifen waterfall + Keelung (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 4: Jiufen + jingua+Northeastern rail (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 5: Yangmingshan (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 6: Ilan’s Toucheng (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 7&8: Taipei City (Accomodation in Taipei) Day 9: Xinchu’s Neiwan (Accomodation in Xinchu city) Day 10: Xin chu city (accomodation in xinchu city or miaoli’s nanzhuang) Day 11: Miaoli’s nanzhuang + Taiya tribe (accomodation in nanzhuang old street) Day 12: Miaoli gongguan + Taichung (Accomodation in Taichung city) Day 13: Taichung city(Accomodation in Taichung city) Day 14: Chingching farm stay (farm stay) Day 15: Chingching farm stay (Accomodation in Taichung city) Day 16: Nantou (Accomodation in Taichung)
Right… where to start? Amendments: – Firstly I would bring days 7 and 8 earlier – possibly as days 2 and 3. In fact with 42 days to spare you can spend more time in Taipei – there are a lot of things to do in Taipei – more so than anywhere else in Taiwan. You could easily spend around 10 days at least of your trip in Taipei – enjoying all the museums, historic landmarks, hot springs, walks, surrounding villages towns etc! Possibly aviod: – Personally I would even bother with the likes of Xingchu – I’ve been there a good few times (relatives) and can tell you it’s incredibly dull! – Taichung – you may find is a poor man’s Taipei (or just a city developed because it’s halfway between Taipei and Kaohsiung). Absolute musts!: 1. Hualien – Taroko Gourge in particular – it is not only considered the most beautiful place in Taiwan, but is often featured amongst the top 30 most beautiful places of natural beauty in the world! It’s a marble gourge carved by waterfalls, streams and rivers! Another activity to consider whilst in Hualien is white water rafting, it’s quite safe and very fun! 2. Ali shan (Ali mountain) – The old Japanese train leaves the small town of JiaYi and moves though the rice fields acending to tropical forest, then sub tropical, then bamboo forests then finally alpine forests at the top of the mountain – the whole journey takes about 4-5 hours and is very sceneic. At the Top of the mountain there is a village resort – I recomend staying at least 2 nights – you should make sure you see the fabulous sun rise. You can also go on a tour to see a 3000 year old tree and monkeys that live in the surrounding forrest! Fantastic! Think about: 1. Sun Moon Lake. 2. Whale/Dolphin spotting at either Keelung, Yi Lan or Hualien – they’ll take you out on a boat for the day! Finally – you need more time in Taipei! I think these few suggestions should give some food for thought!
