My choices for the Top Five Must-See Taiwan Attractions

National Palace Museum

Located in Taipei itself, the National Palace Museum is one of the finest in the world, housing over 700,000 items of Chinese Art and culture. These include writing, paintings and a jaded porcelain and ceramic items covering many centuries. Its present collection, covering 39,000 square metres, was shipped to Taiwan in 1949 during the civil war between the nationalist and communist forces. Its twin sister is the Palace Museum in Beijing, which houses a similar celebration of Chinese culture and art.

Taipei 101.

In stark contrast to the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 is the latest landmark celebrating modern day Taiwan. It does indeed have hundred and one stories and is touted as the world’s tallest building. The observation tower is a Taiwan attraction you should miss during your Taiwan holiday. Standing at 509 m high it was opened in November 2003. Its shape resembles that of a Chinese pagoda and it was designed in accordance with traditional feng shui principles.

Lung Shan Temple

.

First built in 1738 during the Qing Dynasty, Lung Shan Temple is also known as the Dragon Mountain Temple. Unusually (for many cultures) homage is paid to several different Gods, including Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy and Matsu, the goddess of sailors and fishermen. Visitors can hardly help but be impressed by the magnificent carved niches and Dragon features. The temple is situated close to the Huashi Night Market in the Wanhua district.

Yangmingshan National Park

A 30 Minute Drive out of Taipei and you are in the splendour of Yangmingshan National Park. Of Taiwan’s three major national parks this is the only one close to a major city. Its attraction include the flower gardens of Jhuzihhu, its hot sulphur springs, the grassy pastures of Chingtienkang and Milk Lake at Lengshuikeng.

Mt. Yushan

.

At 3952 m high, Mt. Yushan is North East Asia’s highest peak. While not the easiest climb in the world, the view is breathtakingly spectacular and the air crisp and clear.

Definitely Taiwan Attractions you should aim to see during your Taiwan Holiday.

We are touring around Taiwan in April and want to find a nice beach (with some high waves) to chill out for a few days. We had originally looked at Kenting but on closer inspection, it seems very touristy, overcrowded, and full of neon lights and loud people looking to get drunk. Can anyone recommend Dapeng Bay?
I wouldn’t really recomend Dapeng Bay, because during April, many tourist visit. Kenting is not a place like you described. If you try going to Kenting on week days, it would be pretty good. I espacially recomend the hotel Ceasar Hotel and a local very traditional hotel, that had a lot of Taiwanese culture. There a beach 10 minutes away by walking, and is a good beach websites to visit http://www.caesarpark.com.tw/en/taipei.php

Its name is derived from the Chinese meaning: the origin of the river (Bei-Shi River). Sitou has plenty of rains, and is cool and moist all the year round. Therefore, it is one of the most famous resort spots in summer and the most romantic place for new couples to spend their honeymoons. Sitou is part of the experimental forest belonging to the National Taiwan University, and here grows cedars, Chamaecyparis obtuse, red spruces , Phyllostachys edulis, and many other different kinds of trees. Except for a small well-preserved natural broad-leaves forest, most parts of this area have been developed and cultivated purposely. Generally speaking, the feature of the forest here is beautiful and tidy. Here you can visit the unique pure Ginkgo forest, the rare plant of redwood, the divine tree 46 meter high and 16 meter broad and with an age approaching 3,000, Youth’s Activity Center, birds observing footpath, hotels, restaurants, camping area and so on. The University Pond, one of the representative sightseeing spots in Sitou, with an area of 0.5 chings and a depth of 10 meters, has limpid water and is a good place for taking pictures. There are over 7,000 varies of birds available in Sitou, which makes this place a good one for birds observing. River Blacks, White-ears Thrush, Redhead Warblers, Shao-Yen Thrush are representatives of low and middle elevation in Taiwan. Buildings in Shi-To are made of wood and have a smell of natural harmony.

I’ll be going on a package tour to taiwan for about 7days. The package includes Kaohsiung, and of course those attractions. I would also like to extend my stay in Taipei but is it worth extending my stay in Kaohsiung for some shopping? In fact what i wanted was to extend my stay in Taiwan to 2 weeks. So the last week i’ll be staying in Taipei. I was just wondering will a week in Taipei be very boring?!
This you have to see it’s Kaohsiung City or County. If city, it’s not worth as things in Kaohsiung City is almost the same as Taipei, only for some foods that may be different. In county, there are some foods item you can buy, like 龍眼花蜜 (Logan Honey), 芭樂 (palm fruit), 烏魚子 (squid’s egg) etc. You can buy some craft item, mostly on 葫蘆藝術品 (bottle gourd like craft) or 陶藝 (Kiln craft). Take the coach from Kaohsiung city near the train station (new) at Jiuru road 2. (Additional) It will not be boring if you stay in Taipei for 1 week, but really depends on what you like and what you interested on. There are so many places in Taipei that worth the visit and if you want more information, you can visit the website I provided below.
